MADHUMITA RAUT - ODISSI DANCE EXPONENT

Madhumita Raut is the daughter of Guru Mayadhar Raut, the doyen of odissi dance. Being the daughter of a great exponent, odissi runs in her veins. Brought up in Delhi in an atmosphere of dance and music, she has been trained under Guruji with diligence, discipline and dedication.

Madhumita Raut received her academic qualifications at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's School and Indraprastha College in Delhi. She holds a Master's Degree in English Literature from Delhi University. She also holds a diploma in Performing Arts.


A rare combination of intensity and spontaneity, Madumita's dance is noted particularly for its strict adherence to MAYADHAR RAUT GHARANA, known for its grace, depth of expression and technical perfection. She has established herself as an accomplished and dynamic dancer who has mastered the subtleties of the odissi dance form.


Madhumita's innovations include compositions on Hungarian poetry, choreographic compositions on the poems of the celebrated German poet Goethe, fusion dances with Balinese dancer Dia Tantri in Holland.


Madhumita Raut has effectively used the medium of dance for social causes. She has also performed for the Indian Cancer Society, Delhi, WWF(World Wide Fund for Nature) and Campaign Against Pre-Birth Elimination of females.
